2D to 3D: A Revolution in Modeling
Another shift in my workflow is using image to 3D to help with creating models.
You can start with any image, traditional, AI, 2D paintover, and feed it into a 3D pipeline to get a respectable model almost immediately now. This technology has come a long way. In minutes, you’ve got geometry and textures that you can build upon, reforge, detail, retopo.
That changes the speed and versatility of how concepts are brought to life.
For fast prototyping, background objects, even first draft hero models, this redefines what is possible.
For me, this means prototypes come together faster. I can test silhouettes in perspective, check proportions, and see how designs hold up under real lighting before committing to final polish. What starts as exploration can turn into a foundation asset with a little know-how and careful preparation.
Same rule applies as with all AI content: the tech doesn’t make the decisions. It doesn’t have feelings and without emotional resonance, art will lay there on the floor, whether made by a human or a machine. It won’t fix bad proportions. It won’t give you taste. It won’t tell you when something feels off. It will save you a lot of time.
That’s a win.
